The extraordinary event was structured with three sessions: “Costs and benefits of globalization” on the first day, “How many currencies for the new Millennium” on the second and “The new Welfare and privatizations” on the last day.
Milton Friedman, Lawrence Klein, Daniel McFadden, Robert Merton, James Mirrlees, Franco Modigliani, Robert Mundell, Myron Scholes, Robert Solow, Joseph Stiglitz joined the conference, patronized by the President of the Republic. The panel of the speakers included Edward De Bono (De Bono Foundation), Mario Baldassarri (Università La Sapienza di Roma),
Giorgio La Malfa (Economist), Alberto Brambilla (Sottosegretario Ministero Welfare), Paolo Savona (Economist) and Renato Tagiuri (Harvard Business School) as well.
The meeting was anticipated and followed by several events organized in the town of Venice: in the evening of Wednesday 12th the Nobel prizes (flying in from Stockholm where they joined celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the prestigious award) attended the opening of the restored Malibran theater, while the following day a gala dinner was offered by the Mayor of Venice in the prestigious Palazzo Vendramin Calergi on the Canal Grande, followed by a city tour.
